My Role in the Project
I was responsible for designing key sections of the app, including the Lesson, Leaderboard, Shop, Season, Profile, Games, and several other core frames. I worked closely with the Product Owner, incorporating feedback iteratively to improve the user experience and visual consistency.
To inform my design decisions, I conducted research on leading language learning apps as well as popular mobile games, drawing inspiration from their gamification strategies to create an engaging, motivating experience for users.
How I Designed It
Although the project didn’t start with formal wireframes, I worked in an iterative design process, directly incorporating feedback from the Product Owner at each stage. I conducted targeted research on top language learning apps and mobile games to inform both UX flows and gamification mechanics. This helped shape a visually engaging and user-friendly experience aligned with our learning goals.
Goal of Tell me
Tell Me is a gamified language learning app designed to help users improve all four core skills — Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing — through interactive lessons, in-course quizzes, and certified exams. The app blends education and fun, making language learning feel more like a game than a chore.
The Challenge
The Challenge Designing Tell Me required finding the right balance between education and gamification. With no initial wireframes, I collaborated closely with the Product Owner and iterated based on direct feedback. My research into top language learning and gaming apps helped shape features that were both engaging and pedagogically effective. The challenge was to make each section, lessons, quizzes, shop, leaderboard, and more, intuitive, fun, and cohesive within a single user experience.
Final thoughts
Working on Tell Me was a valuable experience where I combined my passion for user-centered design with my curiosity for gamification and education. This project challenged me to design engaging, goal-oriented experiences without relying on predefined structures. Collaborating closely with the Product Owner and continuously iterating based on feedback helped shape a product that is both fun and effective. I'm proud of the impact we created and excited to take these insights into future projects.
